My Philosophy
In this column, I'll talk about some of my deepest beliefs. I think the most important principles that I try
to guide my life with are basically Christian. I do believe in a Good and Holy God who was the Creator of
our world. I also believe that evil is a true and constant threat. I am the first to say I'm not perfect
and I think that all people can learn. My political beliefs are quite conservative meaning that I am pro-Life (I
was adoped at birth), I feel that legal gun ownership should be allowed, I wish our United States boundaries could be better
guarded, I think marriage should be between one man and one woman, I wish for flat tax and no universal health care because
I would like to save and spend my money when and where I see fit. I would like less government control and lower taxes.
I still think my vote counts.
I do not want the government to control what people write but I do think that children
should be guarded from profanity. A kind of PG-13 warning could work at libaries as well as movie theatres or even
magazines and newspapers.
Standardized Tests
I think standardized tests are rough because they don't test you on what you know. But, all through life you are going
to be tested and ranked so you need to learn the tools to survive the game. I love the methods of process of elimination
and plug and go. Sooner or later, you just might figure out what must be the correct answer. But, time is
of the essence and usually effects your grade so make your educated chioce to answer the question and move on.
I like it when tests do not give negative points for incorrect answers. Tests do try to weed out the folks that know
nothing versus the folks that know something. I wish effort and experience could be accuratley measured, but any grade
is subjective in those areas. Most daily grades you get in regular classes that are averaged over a year are more important
than how you do on crazy test that you take on one day (where you might not be feeling good/or feel stress with test anziety).

My Opinions on Current Events
IApril 2009: I am worried about the new more open laws for research on embryonic stem cells. I am worried
that research in the name of science will kill even one viable embryo that could become a growing person. With the idea
that national health care could determine who gets treatments for cancer or other diseases, and the possiblitiy that money
and statistics will count for more than desire and effort, I am fearful that old or disabled persons or poor will not
get the care they could try for healing. What if there is an embryo that is genetically determined to be less
perfect than another and that growing child would be sacrificed for research to heal a rich person's spinal cord or other
problem. I do not think that government or committees should decide who might be healed. I pay for health insurance.
I have to wait for procedures that I can not afford. I am sad to say that health insurance is not something that all
people may have for free. People need to take more responsibilty for thier own bills. For example, I have
a sweet friend that has a new mini van, a wide screen TV, and expensive clothes and electronics but she does NOT have health
insurance for her children. She is living beyond her means (too much credit card use) and she has even had at least
one home foreclosure. I think she is taking advantage of the government programs and systems in an almost criminal way
but what she is doing is legal. Her children even get reduced cost lunches at school. I don't want her
kids to suffer, but she is not using government programs as they should be used and no one can stop her overspending. I
am sure this is happening with thousands of other folks and it is a waste of my tax dollars. I'm not sure how to begin
a fix. I'm just trying to be more careful with my own spending. She is trying to get control of her finances but
her other emotional issues lead her to poor choices.
